Chef Michael Mercado, a seven-year veteran of Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, continues his culinary journey as he assumes the position of Executive Chef at City Fish Market.

Chef Michael was born in Queens, New York but spent his childhood in Boca Raton, Florida, a place he has chosen to call home ever since. Michael discovered a passion for culinary arts early and right inside his own home. His family used food as a means of quality time – they rarely missed cooking & eating meals together.

The entirety of his cooking prowess is a result of extensive on-the-job training, beginning as early as age 16 when he worked in the kitchen for the first time and fell in love with the rush of working a service. What Chef Michael lacks in formal culinary education, he makes up for with innate skill, passion for food, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.

Michael’s career with Buckhead Life began at City Fish Market as a prep cook and continued on to the sous chef position. He continued on to Chops Lobster Bar as Chef de Cuisine, where he spent three years perfecting the skills required to be a leader in the kitchen.

“I’ve been working for Buckhead Life for seven years, and it’s been an amazing experience,” he said. “I’ve learned to work especially hard to make the guest feel special, go that extra mile, and never say no. These are the principles that make Buckhead Life stand out.”

His influences range from his mother & grandmother (both of whom always cooked from scratch) to celebrity chefs like Michael White, Thomas Keller, Curtis Duffy and Buckhead Life chefs like Executive Chef Sean Thompson, who was Michael’s mentor during his time as Chef de Cuisine at Chops Lobster Bar.

“It’s so refreshing to see the refinement Michael brings to his style of cooking,” Chef Sean said. “It’s very apparent in the clarity of the food he serves.”

Chef Michael is eager to contribute his own ideas and impart his unique style to the menu at City Fish Market.

“I can’t wait to create new dishes and bring smiles to every guest that walks in,” he said. “That’s the most gratifying thing about food – giving every guest the best experience possible and making them feel right at home.”

When Chef isn’t in the kitchen, he’s spending time with his son; if you’re looking for them, they’re most likely found out on the open waters fishing together.

Our menus have a great variety of dishes from seafood classics such as Fish & Chips, and our Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, to a wide selection of fresh catch that can be prepared to your taste.
